Fairy Tales fo Mr. Barker

Each Peach Pear Plum by Allan and Janet Ahlberg was my favorite picture book from my childhood. I loved the clues about nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters and the illustrations were charming. I think Janet Ahlberg's illustrations are some of my favorites.  Anytime I have to buy a baby shower gift I always add Each Peach Pear Plum because I think every child should have that book in their library.

Recently I read an interview with Allan Ahlberg on a blog ( I can't remember what blog or I would totally link it).  He mentioned his daughter Jessica's book and then I literally stopped what I was doing and searched for it on the library's website. No copies available at my local library, but I was able to put one on hold. It took a couple of weeks to get my copy and it was worth the wait. The premise is a little girl is reading to her dog, Mr. Barker who does not want to sit for the story so he runs away. The little girl chases after him and ends up in a classic story. Looking around she will name some clues plus the pictures give you lots of hints as to what story it could be.

L.T. really liked the clues part and figuring out what story the little was in, but I think the clues were probably a tad easy for him.  If I had to guess I would say the book is perfect for 3-4 year olds.

Have you read anything else by Jessica Ahlberg? Are you a fan of Allan and Janet Ahlberg?
